Your First Appointment

The first appointment is a consultation with you to elicit your concerns, perform an examination and explore your diagnosis with you. It is the time, separate from any anxiety about a procedure, to discuss treatment options, timing, and assist you with your selection of the anesthetic choice best suited for you and your procedure. Occasionally, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation with treatment on another day.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

  • Your referral slip
  • X-rays, if applicable. If time permits, ask your referring doctor to forward them to us.
  • A list of medications you are presently taking
  • Your Insurance Card

Patients under the age of 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

If your surgery is scheduled on the same day as your consultation, please:

  • Have nothing to eat or drink during the 8 hours prior to your appointment
  • Arrange to have an adult drive you home

Alert your doctor if you:

  • Have a medical condition that may be of concern (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.)
  • Currently take any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.)
